The zone table adds $700 at the low end and $2,300 at the high end for each zone; the text of the same guide says each zone adds $1,500 to $3,000.

Worked example

Two zones with wall mounted heads and a new circuit.

Zone table. 2 zones: $3,100 to $7,800.
Built up from the text. $2,400 to $5,500 for one zone, plus $1,500 to $3,000 = $3,900 to $8,500.
Electrician. $300 to $900.
Total. $3,100 to $7,800 + $300 to $900 = $3,400 to $8,700.

At two zones the text's figure is $800 higher at the bottom and $700 higher at the top than the table.

What each extra zone costs, two ways

HomeAdvisor's guide makes the zone count the main price driver and gives two ways to read it. Its table prices each zone count directly. Its text says each added zone costs $1,500 to $3,000 more, and $1,000 more for the equipment alone.

The table's low end climbs $700 a zone, less than the $1,000 the text gives for the equipment alone. Its high end climbs $2,300 a zone, inside the text's range. So the two agree about expensive systems and disagree about cheap ones, and the gap grows with every zone.

The guide also says an outdoor unit cannot usually serve more than four or five zones, and a larger house needs a second one, at $750 to $5,300 per condenser.

What the zone count does not tell you

The table pairs each zone count with a BTU range, and the ranges overlap heavily: one zone covers 5,000 to 42,000 BTU and four or five zones both reach 78,000. The number of zones is set by the number of rooms you want to control separately. The capacity is set by the heat the house loses and gains, which is a separate calculation this page does not do.

The guide lists installation labor at $500 to $2,500 for most jobs, and up to $5,000 or more for large multi-zone systems, which it puts at 30% to 50% of the total. A heat pump needs its own 220 volt circuit, which it prices at $300 to $900 from an electrician.
